I've been trying to organize my insane number of TTRPG books, materials, maps and tables and it's been a struggle to find a system that works for me.

Instead of trying to organize everything, I've split my goal into parts and will approach it one step at a time:

  • Prepping games
  • Generating encounters
  • Learning rules / new systems

Currently, I'm making a template for how I want to prep my games.

That will determine how I generate encounters, and I'll start listing the books/materials that can help me.

And for rules/systems I am learning Pirate Borg now. One "rule" I want to work on (and I am guilty of shutting down players) is to stop saying "no," but instead "yes... but" and giving them bigger consequences for their decisions.

As I DM longer and longer, I struggle with staying organized and preventing myself from "over prepping." This also makes me feel burned out at times as I have trouble finding what I need, and then over-planning sessions creating additional issues (such as prepping things that aren't even used and feeling overwhelmed).

It's all a process and a learning opportunity. I'm excited to see what I can learn next!
